The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has published the technical document entitled “Guidelines on the prevention of HIV transmission through substances of human origin.”
The document, produced by a team from the ECDC in collaboration with an international panel of experts, represents the first in a series of guidelines that will set out the highest standards relating to substances of human origin (SoHO).
Developed under the new European Regulation on quality and safety standards for SoHO intended for human application, as part of the ECDC mandate, which calls for stricter and more consistent safety measures across the region, the guidelines provide clear recommendations to health authorities and SoHO establishments, ensuring a solid safety net for recipients and for the offspring resulting from medically assisted reproduction (MAR).
